Bulletproofing your Home

It might seem strange to talk about bulletproofing your home. Still, in today's society, a locked door might not be enough to protect your family from today's could-be tragedies.

Anyone from cautious parents to preppers are looking for better ways of keeping themselves and the ones they love safe from harm's way. So, why not look at taking the place you spend most of your life in and making it as secure as possible.

If you're sending your kids to school with a bulletproof backpack, why not provide a safe place for them to return, because surely they aren't wearing the backpack to bed. How about a safe room or constructing your home with bulletproof entryways and walls? BallisticBoard® provides that capability and at a reasonable price.

As you can see from the list above, there are various custom options for your contractor to take advantage of. However, we're only going to focus on two of them in this blog: residential safe rooms and construction materials.

Residential Safe Rooms

There are plenty of reasons to have a safe room. Some people have a safe room for inclement weather, others for home invasions. Today's safe room topic will be on home invasion.

Now, some of you might be thinking; if someone breaks into my home, I'll shoot them. Unfortunately, if you live in a state that doesn't have a Castle Law, this might not work out in your favor, even if the shots were fired in self-defense.

Home Protection.jpeg

There are also individuals who aren't comfortable pulling the trigger; they'd rather wait until the police show up to do the job for them, or they'll simply wait it out.

For those reasons, having a safe room as protection against intruders would be a good idea. Considering what's going on in the world, if you have a group of rioters outside, you might not have the firepower to win that war. Or the police might not be capable of coming to your rescue. In those unfortunate cases, having a place to hide away would be ideal.

It doesn't matter why you want a safe room. What matters is the fact that we can work with your contractor or architect to get a room (or entire house) built with BallisticBoard® protection. And if you're not ready to go full-out and bulletproof your entire home, that's okay. A safe room might be the ideal option for you.

WHERE’S THE IDEAL PLACE TO HAVE A SAFE ROOM

  • Has one BallisticBoard® enforced doorway

  • Has an escape area (such as a window)

  • Has access to a phone (if you don’t have a cell phone)

  • Is quick and easily accessible from all areas of the house

  • Can fit your entire family

  • Has room for provisions

  • Has limited glass windows

  • Gets cellular reception

  • BallisticBoard® enforced door

  • Self-defense weapons

  • Ammo

  • Food for pets (if applicable)

  • Medical Supplies

  • Extra prescribed medicine for anyone in the house

  • Radio equipment

  • Battery charger for cell phone

  • Ax/pry bar (if you need to break out of your room)

  • Warm Clothes and Blankets

  • Hepa Filter Masks

  • Extra set of clothes and shoes/boots for everyone in the house

Building Materials and Construction BallisticBoard®

"I'm looking for a material that protects against potential threats somewhere between handguns and armor-piercing ammunition from riffles but doesn't have a prohibitive weight. I need a strong, rigid solution; or something more flexible for other applications needed to build a safe room. But my budget isn't unlimited. I'd love to find something that won't break the bank."

Does the above sound like something you'd say? Well then, look no further than BallisticBoard® with Duritium® technology. As we mentioned earlier, our BallisticBoard® comes in various sizes, ranging from 0.125" thick to 1" thick.

Depending on thickness, our BallisticBoard panels could stop the most common rounds from handguns and even multiple rounds from armor-piercing ammo, like 7.62 and 5.56. Even better, our product is 100% manufactured in the USA.

INTERNAL WALLS AND EXTERNAL WALLS

If you've read our blog on custom options available for use with BallisticBoard®, then you read a few statistics. According to the FBI, 49% of violent crimes in the U.S. happen in the comfort of your own home. There's nothing comforting about that unless you know that your walls and doors have been reinforced with our patented BallisticBoard®.

External Walls.jpeg

As a building contractor, if you want to give your clients protection against a 9mm or even a 7.62, BallisticBoard® can give you that capability.

Here at ShotStop®, our goal is to provide an extra layer of security and safety for our customers. If you're an architect, contractor, or engineer, contact us with your roofing needs.
