Kwolek, of course, is the inventor off Kevlar, which today is used in everything from tires (its intended purpose) to protective racing gear, armored panels and most of the armored vests and clothing on which military and police forces have come to rely.

But Vall Iliev hopes to improve on Kwolek’s work and even surpass her technology altogether.
